Top Excuses Men Make For Not Taking Care Of Their Skin (And Why They’re Just Not Good Enough)
Other than "the dog ate my moisturiser”, we’ve heard them all.
Often, it seems men will do anything to get out of committing to a simple skincare routine.
Here are some of the most common excuses, and why they just aren’t good enough:
1. I Don’t Know Where To Start
2. I’m Just Not That Kind of Guy
How do we know?
Because the male grooming industry is escalating at a rate of 5% each year and this rate is increasing exponentially.
Sure, that kind of guy was once used in reference to the more vain, more effeminate male. Now it just means the type of person who isn’t happy living in their own filth. The kind of guy who has cottoned on to the fact that skin care is an essential element of personal hygiene. The kind of guy who knows that being masculine in today’s world means looking fresh, sharp and effortlessly smooth.
3. I’d Rather Spend My Money Elsewhere
Classic excuse. One of the most common. So let’s unpack this for a moment. Well, the first question is, what are these things that are so much more investable than the largest organ of the body? A couple of Ubers? A meal out? Or, let’s go more impressive - a designer suit in exchange for 2 years worth of premium skincare products? We’re on a role now so let’s keep going… Men will spend thousands upon thousands of pounds on their image. From cuff links to cars to designer shoes and watches...
But a face cream? How much? £30??? Hang on…
4. I Just Don’t Have Time
Oh please. This was the number 1 argument we tackled when building this brand. Hence creating our signature 5-minute ritual. It is deliberately condensed so that everybody, even the very busiest of people, can reap the benefits. We aren’t suggesting everyone can spare the time for a daily face mask. But 5 minutes in the morning and 5 at night in exchange for clear, fresh, youthful looking skin - can you think of a better way to spend that time? We’d like to hear it.
5. My Skin Is Fine, I’ll Worry About It When I’m Older
This is probably the most dangerous of excuses. There is a big question mark hanging over ‘when’ to start really caring for your skin. The answer is from adolescence onwards. That’s right. The moment you get your first blemish, it’s time to start keeping your skin clean and fresh. And the younger you start, the more ordinary it will feel as part of your general hygiene ritual.
6. It’s Too Late To Start Now
It’s the oldest cliche in the book but the truth of the matter is that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Yes, we promote a preventative rather than reactive approach but that does not mean that the active ingredients in our formulations will not work on damaged skin. Your skin loses elasticity year on year so it’s never too late to combat that by keeping the skin hydrated and fresh. We don’t use abrasive chemicals in our products but the results of integrating the 5-minute ritual twice a day makes for far more effective results and far happier skin. And it’s never too late for that.
Hopefully, we’ve left you with little to argue in defence of ignoring your skin. But if not, we’re always happy to hear questions, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
